Outdoor Burning May be Restricted due to the Extended Drought

Many of you may have piles of yard debris that have grown in size in the past several months or due to recent shoreline construction or maintenance.  As in many cases, people are anxious to apply for a burn permit from the Forestry Commission to dispense with these unwanted piles.  Our area has been under a burn ban which was established by the State of Alabama or the State of Georgia.

The drought that our area has been experiencing has increased the risk of wildfire from outdoor burning.  Additionally, the extremely dry conditions make outdoor burning a very risky proposition and small debris burns are the number one cause of wildfires. The Forestry Commission monitors conditions daily for each county in the State. Please contact your local Forestry Commission office or visit www.Gatrees.org or www.forestry.state.al.us for permitting questions and current conditions for burning in your area.
